If you're looking for a fun Easter activity that doubles as a delicious treat, Easter Smash Eggs are the perfect choice. These colourful chocolate eggs are filled with lollies and surprises, then smashed open with a little wooden hammer to reveal what's inside.
They’re surprisingly easy to make and look amazing as Easter gifts, table centrepieces, or egg hunt prizes. Using an Easter egg mould, chocolate melts and colourful decorations, you can create beautiful marbled eggs that are almost too pretty to smash… almost!
What You’ll Need
- Easter Egg Mould
- White Chocolate Melts (we used Nestle White Choc Melts)
- Colour Mill Oil Colours (for colouring the chocolate)
- Colour Mill Chocolate Drip
- Sprinkles
- Edible Lustre Dust (optional)
- Cake Card (we used a 6" card for this mould)
- Assorted lollies or mini eggs
- Small smash hammer
- Microwave-safe bowl
- Spoon or spatula
Optional extras for gifting:
- Treat box
- Shredded Tissue
- Extra lollies or mini eggs
Step-by-Step: Making Your Easter Smash Egg
1. Melt the Chocolate
Place the white chocolate melts into a microwave-safe bowl and melt in the microwave in short bursts, stirring between each until smooth.

2. Colour the Chocolate
Split the melted chocolate into two bowls. Add a few drops of Colour Mill Oil Colour to each and mix well. These oil-based colours are perfect for chocolate and will give pretty pastel Easter shades.
3. Create the Marble Effect
Carefully pour both coloured chocolates into the Easter egg mould.
Tilt and swirl the mould so the chocolate coats the inside evenly. This creates a beautiful marbled chocolate shell.
Tip: make sure the edges are not too thin.

4. Set the Chocolate
Place the mould in the refrigerator until the chocolate has fully set.
5. Release the Egg
Once set, gently release the chocolate egg halves from the mould. A gentle tap on the bench may help.

6. Fill the Egg
Place your favourite lollies, mini eggs, or chocolates inside one half of the egg.
7. Seal the Egg
Pipe a little melted chocolate around the edge of the egg half.
Place the cake card on top to seal the egg, then carefully flip it over so the egg sits right side up.

8. Tidy the Edges
Use a small knife or spatula to tidy any rough chocolate edges.
9. Decorate
Drizzle Colour Mill Chocolate Drip over the top of the egg and finish with plenty of colourful sprinkles. Add some Edible Lustre Dust for extra sparkle!
This is where you can get creative with colours and decorations!
