Bubble, bubble… bring a little balloon magic to your Halloween decorating! With a glossy black base and lime green balloon bubbles spilling over the rim, this balloon cauldron makes a fun feature for your party entrance, spooky backdrop or treat table.
Choose lime green for a classic witch’s brew, or use your own colour combination to match your Halloween theme.
What You’ll Need
- 1 x 60cm black balloon
- 2 x black modelling balloons
- 4 x 30cm black balloons
-
Black 12cm balloon for the weight
- Plenty of 12cm lime green balloons, or a colour of your choice
- Glue dots
- Balloon pump

Step 1: Make the Cauldron Legs
Inflate the four 30cm black balloons to a similar size. Tie them together in pairs, then twist the two pairs together to create a cluster of four, known as a quad.
Place the quad on your display surface. This forms the legs and supports your cauldron.

Step 2: Add a Weight to the Base
Fill a 12cm balloon with water and tie it securely. Gently nestle it into the centre of your black balloon quad, then tie its neck to the joined balloon necks to hold it in place. This adds weight to the base and helps keep your cauldron steady.

Step 3: Add the Cauldron Body
Inflate the 60cm black balloon and tie it off. Position it on top of the black balloon legs, then secure it with glue dots.
Check that the body sits centrally on the base before adding the rim and bubbles.
Step 4: Create the Rim
Inflate the two black modelling balloons, allowing the air to reach the tips so you can join each tip to its tied end.
Shape each modelling balloon into a circle and tie the ends together. Use glue dots to join the two circles, stacking one above the other to create a double rim.
Position the rim on top of the large black balloon and secure it with glue dots.

Step 5: Build Your Balloon Bubbles
Inflate plenty of 12cm balloons, varying their sizes slightly for a bubbling effect.
Tie the balloons into pairs, then twist two pairs together to form a quad. Continue joining quads by gently twisting them together until you have one large bubble cluster.
Use glue dots to attach individual balloons into gaps and build the shape you want. For the overflowing look shown in the image, create a generous mound across the top with longer sections cascading down the sides.
Tip for rounder bubbles: Inflate each balloon slightly larger than you need, then gently press it against your body while releasing a little air. This helps soften the shape and make it rounder before you tie it off.

Step 6: Assemble Your Witch’s Brew
Place your bubble cluster over the rim and secure it with glue dots. Arrange the side sections so they look like bubbles spilling out of the cauldron.
Add a few individual balloons wherever you need extra fullness or want to hide a gap.

Ready for a Spooky Display
Set your finished cauldron against a dark backdrop to make the bright bubbles stand out. The purple tones in our hero image give it an extra spooky feel—a look you could recreate with a foil curtain.
